The girl who dreamed of Paris
One evening recently, my phone rang. When I answered, I heard an excited, joyful child’s voice exclaiming: “Hello, Aunt Sveta!! Happy Holidays! It’s Katya! You remember me, don’t you – from the children’s shelter??”
“Of course I remember you!” I replied, trying to recall all the girls named Katya who I’d seen pass through that shelter in the last year or so.
“Do you remember, during your Bible lessons, how we talked about what we dreamed of doing or being? I was the girl who always dreamed of going to Paris!”
Once she said that, I remembered her immediately… such a little girl, and such a big dream! I remembered how she would cry as she prayed for God to give her a family, for brothers and sisters… and always, that she could go to Paris.
Katya hurried on to say, “You’ll never believe it! I have my very own family now, with lots of brothers and sisters – just what I always dreamed of! Our family is very loving, and we go to church together, take an active part in church ministries, even. And just wait… our whole family is going to Paris over the Christmas holidays!! Our parents have some relatives living there, and they asked us to come stay with them… can you believe it!? Aunt Sveta, it’s just amazing, it’s a miracle… God heard all my prayers, and is answering them! Not only has he given me a wonderful family, but I’m even going to Paris!! I’m just so, so happy!!”|
My own heart was just bursting with joy by this time. I gave her my warmest wishes for a wonderful time in Paris and a wonderful life with her new family. I said goodbye and just sat there thanking and praising the Lord for the miracles he had worked in the life of this precious orphan child. We serve an amazing God, and there truly is nothing too hard for him!”
