Why am I in orphan ministry? (O. Zamorskaya)  

Sometimes feelings of loneliness are strong enough to make you wish you were dead! For children who grow up in orphanages, those feelings are what they live with, day in and day out…

I find each one of these children enigmatic, living with the pain of loneliness as they do. Each one of them has had a hard life already; they’re plagued by problems, anxiety, and insecurity. They need good friends and people who will love and support them even more than other children. All of us appreciate those who care for us, who love us… but cares for the child in the orphanage? 

If by visiting an orphanage I can bring happiness and love to even one child, become his trusted friend and confidante… then why not do so? 

As I considered these questions, I could not find any convincing reason not to become involved in ministering to orphans. I decided that if I am able to bring happiness to even one orphan, then as a Christian, I am obliged to do just that.  

This life speeds by for all of us, and as these children grow up, very soon they will find themselves faced with the decision of what they are living for – or Whom they are living for. More than anything else, I want for them to know that without God, it is impossible to find meaning in life. It seems like the world around us wounds us each and every day, and my task is to do everything I can so that these children are not abandoned, left to fend for themselves when they are hurting and wounded. My desire is to help remove some of the pain I see in their eyes, so that those eyes begin to shine with joy. My calling is to help bring them to Christ, introducing them to the hope, peace and joy that He so freely gives.
